Princess Anastasia was a Grad Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, born on the 18th of June in 1901 in Russia.
She was executed by Bolsheviks on the 17th of July 1918, together with her family. Her dad, Nicholas II, was a Tsar of Russia.
The tragic event happened after the horror of the Russian Revolution in 1917, where the aristocrats were either executed or managed to escape to Europe, mostly to France and Belgium, as they all spoke fluent French.
The sadness of the fate of the royal Russian family will, hopefully, never be forgotten. The whole family lived a simple life, where children had to share rooms, tidy after themselves, wear second hand clothes, and have cold baths in the morning.
Anastasia was the youngest of four sisters, at first, making her father upset. The whole family was praying to have a son, to secure the title of the future tzar. According to the law introduced by Tzar Pavel I, women could claim the royal title only after all male lines would be exhausted. Nikolai II had a brother, but no one wanted him to become a tzar, as he was considered to be too simple from intellectual point of view. The male heir, the son, was born later.
Anastasia was small (158cm) and a bit chubby, making her popular and much loved. She was very creative and clever, coming up with practical jokes all the time.
During First World War, Anastasia, together with her other sisters and their mother, would help at the hospital to look after wounded soldiers.
In 1918, after the Russian revolution of 1917, the whole family was sent to Ekaterinburg, Ipatiev house, where they were brutally killed.
The death of Anastasia remained a mystery in the history books, as her grave was never found, and it was never confirmed 100% until recent years, when It was finally established that the whole family had perished in the hands of Bolsheviks’ savages.
This led to numerous speculations that Anastasia had managed to escape (impossible), leading to some women claiming that they were Princess Anastasia, with one woman in Germany keeping courts busy for years, before a DNA test became available, showing that she wasn’t related to the Russian royal family.
A very sad story, showing, unfortunately, what humans are capable of doing. Having some aristocratic blood in my genes, it makes me very upset that aristocracy is gone in Russia.
