This is my cat, Luni, and he is an absolute delight.
We had another cat previously – Gina. We took her from an animal shelter when she was seven years old. I remember that when we came to the shelter we were looking for a young cat for my son. But it was Gina who came towards us and started cuddling my son. She was a smart cat. We took her and she stayed with us for nine years, bringing us joy and profound lessons in life. It was thanks to Gina that I learned to love my pets the same way I love children and other people who are dear to me.
I think that animals bring us happiness. They make great companions and give so much love, provided, of course, that you give it back. Luni came to us as a kitten. A colleague from work found him in the bushes and asked in an online group whether anyone wanted the cat. My son and I had been waiting to meet our new cat for three years by then, as Gina was irreplaceable and the grief was still strong. But when we saw the picture of Luni, who looked so similar to Gina, we couldn’t resist. Half an hour later he was in my arms.

Luni was approximately three months old and was sick in the beginning. We had to look after him as if he were a real baby. He would sleep with me and follow me everywhere. The first time I dared to go out (two weeks later), I came back to find him wrapped up in my scarf.

Everyone who knows Luni loves him. He is a beautiful cat with amazing green eyes and a very present personality. He has his perks. His favourite hang-outs are bags and drawers. He can also be a bit naughty: he throws things on the floor to make himself more comfortable inside a drawer. We don’t mind. We find him hilarious, especially when he poses for pictures and makes faces. It is impossible not to like Luni.
As with my previous cat, Luni isn’t just a beloved family member. He is special. He teaches us how to love a cat (or any animal), how to be kind, and how to see that animals also have souls. I find that it makes a big difference when a child grows up with an animal in the house. I also see it in myself. Luni makes me kinder, more empathetic, and better as a person overall.
So, this is our little darling, and I bet you will feel better after seeing Luni, even if it is just a picture. Cats have this quality: they make a positive difference in the world around us.
